How to write copy that sells?

Most people don’t know the right way to target their audience.

When it comes to copywriting, people only means selling.

They keep targeting the audience without knowing their level of awareness.

This leads them to sell a bad copy.

Now how will you know?

  • The right way to target the audience

  • The right way to specify your competition.

Here in this article, you will know the audience’s awareness level and their competition level to enhance your copywriting skills.

Let’s dive in:

1. Unaware

Unaware is a situation when your audience is not aware of their problem.

  • It’s usually broad

  • The pain in the unaware is weaker

  • It’s a more indirect approach (less YOU)

Now what you should write to target an unaware audience:

  • Facts

  • Stories

  • Secrets

  • Curiosity

  • Symptoms

  • Asking questions

This is an example of an article targeting the unaware audience:

What could this ad/article lead to?

It’s an indirect approach showing an implied solution to a problem.

2. Problem aware

It’s a situation where your audience knows about their problem and is in instant need of a solution.

Now what you should write to target a problem-aware audience:

  • Needs

  • Benefits

  • Anxieties

  • Pain points

Show them you empathize towards the problem & will help them to find a solution.

The article below targets the problem-aware audience by describing the problem directly.

Remember to use the word YOU when targeting the “problem-aware” audience.

3. Solution aware

It’s a situation where your audience knows there is a solution to their problem. Write about:

  • Social proof

  • Case studies

  • Testimonials

Anything that would get them to believe that your product is the best solution for them compared to other solutions

Here’s an example of an article targeting solution aware audience directly.

4. Product Aware

Your prospect knows you have a product for their problem but don't want it yet.

  • Show feedbacks

  • Share free content

  • Create a sales page

  • Show product comparison with others

Put your best work to show them that your product is best for them.

5. Most Aware

It’s a situation where your prospect knows everything about you, your product, your offer & they want it.

Now if they are paying you, make sure you must provide these things in return:

  • A bonus

  • A free trial

  • A discount

  • A guarantee

To build trust.

6. Sophistication level

The sophistication level is basically a level of competition.

Where you find the competition on different levels like:

Level 1- Birth of the market (no other competitors)

Level 2- Few competitors ( make a claim bigger than your competitors)

Level 3- Introduce your product that offers a logical reason to buy it.

Level 4- Create a better product with an upgraded version of your product.

Level 5- This has the highest level of skepticism, and advanced marketing strategies are applied

7. Identifying sophistication level

On Twitter, we sell on sophistication levels 3 and 4.

The easiest way to identify this level is by looking at competitors who are selling.

  • Do they have a system?

  • How strong is their system?

  • Do they elaborate on the system?

Look out for 3-5 competitors & try to follow their patterns.

How can you implement this?
  1. Now you know that there are 5 types of awareness levels.

  2. So, your writing needs to speak to your audience within these five sections.

  3. And if you want to sell your products, determine the sophistication level & act accordingly.
